The Society
Letter from the Auditor.
I would like to welcome you to the 2010-2011 college term. Whether you are a fresher or a continuing student, the THEO wants to entertain you and provide a pleasant environment where you can take a break from the hustle and bustle of college life. Drop into our room right at the top of the GMB and we will do our best to make you feel at home.
The Theological Society of Trinity College, Dublin, Ireland (or THEO for short) is one of the oldest in the college, founded in 1830. That means we have seen empires come and go, but the THEO continues to provide great speakers and good times for all its members.
The THEO format is simple: We provide a night's entertainment in the form of a speaker on a topic of interest followed by Q&A and food and drink. Our speakers for 2010-2011 come from all walks of life and include academics, journalists, politicians and writers.
Our topics range widely including spirituality, religion, ancient languages, ethics, law, the environment, sexuality and human rights. If you have a topic you would like to see discussed this year, please let us know!
Any issue, big or small, we are here to help! Wishing you great success in the coming year.
Yours,
Henry Lynam,
Auditor.
The GMB
Just off the main square beside the Buttery, the GMB houses the THEO society rooms. We have two rooms, a society room (the Bram Stoker Room, right at the top of the building) and an evening lecture room (the Debating Chamber, on the floor as you come into the building). The GMB was built to celebrate 300 years of Trinity College, so it's pretty fancy!
To get to our society room keep going up and up the stairs until you find the Bram Stoker room. Why not get away from it all and relax on our big couch and take down a book from our library to chill out? For the linguists out there we also have texts in Greek and Latin.
All of our evening lectures are held on the first floor of the GMB on a Monday night. That's the floor just as you walk in. This is a big room, so you can hide at the back if you want!
Come on over, we're waiting to see you!
